Do I need MLS access to view listings or search for properties?
No. You do not need to be a member of a Realtor MLS to search for properties, view listings, or operate effectively as a real estate agent.
How you can still view listings and search properties without Realtor MLS membership.
At Easy Realty, agents have multiple ways to access listing data and serve clients without being a Realtor:
- You can search all available listings directly on the Easy Realty consumer website or on the portals.
- You can generate full market reports for any area, property type, or price range.
- You can set up automated email alerts for clients, including new listings, price changes, and status updates.
- You can access properties for showings using lockbox systems, including one-time access codes when needed.
- If you need additional information that is typically found in MLS-only fields, such as confidential agent remarks or internal documents, you can request that directly from the listing agent.
Important clarification about the MLS
The MLS is a cooperative system between brokers. It is not a private database owned by Realtors or dependent on NAR membership.
The listing agent has a fiduciary duty to their seller. That includes providing accurate information and responding to reasonable requests from other agents. You do not need to pay for MLS access just to obtain disclosures or property details that a listing agent is already obligated to provide.
What actually changes when you drop Realtor membership
When you leave NAR, you are removing yourself from a trade association. You are not losing your ability to:
• Represent buyers and sellers
• Search and market properties
• Access listing data through brokerage systems
• Communicate and cooperate with listing agents
In other words, your ability to do business does not depend on being a Realtor.
The bottom line
You can still see listings.
You can still serve clients.
You can still close deals.
Realtor membership is optional. Access to listings and cooperation between agents is not dependent on it.
